Comparisons
Between an existing building made of thermolite (Pozzolan) bricks and cement bricks insulated with polystyrene
an introduction:
Analytical and detailed study to compare the prices of raw materials, iron and labor needed to complete the buildings if the internal and external walls of light insulating pozzolanic bricks or traditional cement bricks insulated with polystyrene were used.

The Study:
The study and design of a four-storey building, each floor consists of four apartments, with a total area of 1477 m2 has been calculated, and the quantities and prices necessary for its completion have been calculated.
Model (1):
Thermal insulating and fire-resistant pozzolani bricks:
1. Using 10 cm and 15 cm cement bricks for the internal partitions.
2. Wall thickness of 20/15 cm for external walls
3. The mortar is mixed on site with a thickness of 1 cm.
4. Plaster consists of two stages, which are (nail and deposit, and smooth) that are mixed at the site.
Based on these data, the building was designed and the quantities and cost were found as shown in Table No. (1)

Model (2):
Cement brick insulated with polystyrene:
5. Using 10 cm and 15 cm cement bricks for internal partitions.
6. Wall thickness of 20 cm for external walls as follows:
10 cm bricks from the outside + 3 cm polystyrene insulation + 7 cm bricks from the inside.
7. The mortar is mixed on site, with a thickness of 2 cm.
8. Plastering consists of three stages (nail, coarse, smooth) that are mixed on site.
Based on these data, the building was designed and the quantities and cost were found as shown in Table No. (2)

Results :
1- The price difference in materials:
A - The total cost of the building using pozzolanic bricks for a four-storey building with an area of 1447 m 2 = 112124.14 dinars
B - The total cost of the building using ordinary bricks insulated with polystyrene for a four-storey building with an area of 1447 m 2 = 129511.4 dinars
C - The difference in the price is equal to 17387.26 dinars, which is equivalent to 15.5% of the cost.
2- Saving manpower and time:
A- The labor cost in executing the construction of light pozzolanic bricks is equal to one third of the labor cost required to build ordinary bricks because the ordinary brick wall needs three stages: bricks, insulation, bricks, while the pozzolanic bricks need to be completed only one stage because it is basically insulated, which saves the cost of labor and contributes to in the speed of completion.
B- * Ordinary brick plasterer needs three stages, while pozzolana brick needs two stages (leave and nail, smooth) due to the stability of its dimensions, which also saves in time and labor and in the amount of materials used.
3- Thermal insulation (electromechanical savings):
Based on the study carried out by the Royal Scientific Society, it was found through the results it reached that the pozzolanic bricks save in electromechanical energy for heating and cooling equivalent to 35% more savings than cement bricks insulated with polystyrene. Because of this effect in reducing the foundational cost of electromechanical and the cost of oil derivatives and electricity used, which affects the operational cost of heating and cooling.
The estimated cost of such a building for electromechanical works related to heating = 48.000 dinars for the building of cement bricks.
But in the case of using pozzolanic bricks, this cost will be up to 32,000 dinars, which means a saving of 16,000 dinars
This is with regard to saving the operational cost, which is equivalent to 350 dinars per month, by calculating the current prices of oil derivatives, which has taken it to rise.
